LIONEL  ATWILL  (1885 – 1946)  signed c. 5″ x 7″ 2-sided letter to an admirer in Scotland in black fountain pen ink.

The letter comes with the original envelope, also in Mr. Atwill’s handwriting.

Lionel Atwill (nicknamed ‘Pinky’) was born in London, debuted there in the theatre in 1905, and came to the US in 1915. He appeared in 77 films from 1918 – 1946, many of which are true horror classics : Doctor X (1932), The Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933 ) – both in glorious 2-strip Technicolor , The Vampire Bat (1932), Son of Frankenstein (1939), Man Made Monster (1941), Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man (1943) and many more.

He was the only actor to appear in five of the eight Frankenstein films releases by Universal from 1931 to 1948.

This letter (folded once, dated 1936) is in fine condition. The envelope has glue stuck to the back of it, where it was previously stuck into an album. There are creases and a tear where the envelope has been opened carelessly.
